4-Day Rwanda Gorilla Trek – Where to visit?
Volcanoes National Park in Brief
Nestled within the Virunga Mountains, Volcanoes National Park is a haven for biodiversity and a sanctuary for endangered species. Beyond the gorillas, the park boasts a diverse array of flora and fauna, including golden monkeys, elusive forest elephants, and numerous bird species. As you venture through the park’s mist-shrouded slopes and verdant valleys, you’ll be immersed in its tranquil beauty and ancient allure. Whether hiking to the summit of a dormant volcano or meandering along forest trails, every step reveals a new marvel of nature waiting to be discovered.
Dian Fossey’s Grave at Karisoke Research Centre
No visit to Volcanoes National Park is complete without paying homage to the remarkable legacy of Dian Fossey. A trailblazing primatologist and fierce advocate for gorilla conservation, Fossey dedicated her life to studying and protecting Rwanda’s mountain gorillas. Tragically murdered by poachers in 1985, her memory lives on at the Karisoke Research Centre, where her tomb serves as a poignant reminder of her enduring impact. Visiting her final resting place offers a moment of reflection on the challenges and triumphs of conservation efforts in Rwanda and around the world. As you stand amidst the tranquil beauty of the park, surrounded by the sights and sounds of nature, you’ll be inspired by Fossey’s unwavering commitment to protecting our planet’s most vulnerable inhabitants.
